DENTAL IMPLANT COST

Understanding the Cost of Dental Implants

What Determines Dental Implant Cost?

There are many factors that determine the cost of a dental implant: brand of implant, experience of the doctor placing the implant and whether or not the doctor has to outsource the abutments and crowns that attach to the dental implant.

Dental Implants and its Components

On average, a single dental implant can cost from $1500 to $2500. It is important to remember that a dental implant is just an analog of a missing tooth’s root. In order to replace a missing tooth, a dental implant must have two additional components: Abutment and Crown.

Prices of these abutments and crowns vary significantly ranging from $1000 to $2000. There are many types of abutments (customized titanium abutments, customized zirconia abutments, stock abutments, pre-fabricated abutments).

There are also many different types of crowns (gold crown, zirconia crowns, zirconia layered with porcelain crowns, lithium disilicate crowns, porcelain fused or metal crowns. In total, the average cost to replace a missing tooth with a dental implant range from $2500 to $5000.

Long-Term Investment

Why is there such a wide range of pricing?

As with anything man made, there is a clinical difference in quality with dental implants. How do you know whether you are receiving a high-quality implant?

Ask your doctor the following questions:

Is the implant FDA approved?

What is the brand name of the implant?

How long has this implant company been around?

What is the warranty on the dental implant?

Is the dental implant FDA approved?

It is critical to know that your dental implant is FDA approved. This means that the implant manufacturer has met and exceeded the minimum clinical safety guidelines. It means that there has been years of research done by the implant manufacturer to ensure its clinical success and safety.

The FDA certification of a dental implant means clinical safety. There are hundreds of dental implant manufacturers. Not all dental implant manufacturers meet the FDA certification. Once a dental implant receives its FDA approval, the company most often incudes a lifetime warranty on these dental implants.

What is the brand name of the implant?

Dental implant manufacturers come and go. Make sure that your dental implant is made by a reputable company that has been around for years. If a dental implant company becomes obsolete, the parts to restore your implants may also become obsolete.

A made to order tooth

As for the other two components of the dental implant, the abutment and crown, the price range can be explained by the type of abutment or crown. A customized abutment and crown typically cost more than a stock abutment and crown. As the name implies, a customized abutment and crown is designed to a patient’s clinical specifications: a made to order tooth.
